Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is not available on PS4. The 2026 game is a PS5 release on PlayStation; buying Standard or Vault Edition does not add a PS4 version. Sony's official MW4 page explicitly excludes PS4 in its product terms.
If you only own a PS4, neither a different edition nor a PlayStation Plus subscription provides a native PS4 version of MW4. Check the platform attached to the exact product before purchasing.
The PlayStation versions you can buy
| Product | Listed PlayStation platform | What it means for a PS4 owner |
|---|---|---|
| MW4 Standard | PS5 | The base game is for PS5; no PS4 copy is listed. |
| MW4 Vault | PS5 | Additional edition content does not change the supported console. |
| MW4 on PS5 Pro | PS5 Pro Enhanced | An enhanced PS5 experience, not an older-console edition. |
Match the MW4 Standard product and then check its PS5 platform field; neighboring cross-gen cards refer to other games.
The PlayStation product listing labels both MW4 editions PS5. Activision's PlayStation features page also describes the game for PS5 and PS5 Pro. You do not need the Vault Edition merely to obtain the PS5 base game.
Why PS4 appears near Modern Warfare 4 listings
Sony's MW4 page also displays products from the wider Call of Duty series. Some of those cards have PS4 and PS5 labels, including Warzone and older cross-gen releases. Those labels belong to their own products, not to the MW4 Standard or MW4 Vault card.
The page's general series section also groups Call of Duty games available across PS4 and PS5. That heading does not mean every game shown supports both consoles. For MW4, use the platform on the individual edition and its product terms.
Before paying, make these checks:
- Confirm the title is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, the 2026 release. The older Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare uses a different word order and is a different game.
- Open the exact edition you intend to buy, rather than relying on a series banner or a neighboring game card.
- Read its platform field. The MW4 editions shown by Sony are PS5 products.
Playing with friends and online requirements
MW4 supports cross-platform online play on its supported platforms. That connects supported versions; it does not create a PS4 version or let a PS4 run a PS5 purchase.
On PS5, online multiplayer requires PlayStation Plus, sold separately. Sony lists this as an online-play requirement in addition to owning the game. It does not change which console the game supports. See the official PlayStation listing for the product and account requirements applying in your region.
